Choose the number of results you want to export, All (up to 10,000), All on the page, or a selection.
Choose Send to and then citation manager.
PubMed allows you to export results to a citation manager using the Send to button (above the list of results). If exporting to RIS, after saving the file, open your reference manager and import (Add files) by browsing to the file location.
Note that for screening purposes you need to choose Fields of citation, abstract or citation, abstract, subject headings or complete reference.
Then choose Export choosing a format appropriate for your Citation Manager.
Instead of clicking ALL, in the box labeled Select Range, type 1-1000 the first time, 1001-2000 the second time, etc. If you wish to export more than 1000, you will have to repeat the process 1 or more times.
In the white toolbar above the search results, check ALL if you have 1000 or fewer results.
OVID databases (for example Medline and Agricola) will allow you to export up to 1000 search results at a time. Then choose to Add files and browse to the location of the unzipped file. Open your reference manager, and create a folder (or click into an existing folder) intended to hold the citations.
After receiving the email and clicking on the link, you will need to open or save the file and then extract the files since they are compressed (zipped).
Note that it may take up to an hour to receive the email. Most reference managers will import an RIS file. Enter your email address and be sure to choose to receive the citations in a format compatible with the reference manager you use.

From the page of search results, click on Share (on the right immediately above the search results).

Select New Reference from the References Menu. Sometimes (rarely), you will be unable to import a reference from a database and will need to enter the bibliographic data manually. When importing, make sure that the correct file type is selected in Import Options: If EndNote cannot find the metadata you'll need to edit the reference manually. If the article's metadata is embedded in the PDF, EndNote will automatically build a reference for the PDF. You may import folders containing multiple PDFs or single PDFs. When you find what you're looking for, right-click the reference to add it to your library! Run your search using the correct search field(s) from the dropdown menu(s). Select the database you wish to search under Online Search: We recommend using this feature only when you know what you're looking for (i.e. Search PubMed and other databases from within EndNote using Online Search. They will also appear in a temporary "Imported References" section. Once you open the file, the references contained in it will automatically be added to your EndNote library. You may need to "teach" your computer to automatically open files of this type in EndNote. Select Create file to prompt a download, then open the file. Whether you're looking at a list of citations or an individual record, select the references you wish to export and then: Send To > Citation Manager Download PubMed citations automatically into your EndNote library.
